Lower Tuolumne River Fishing Report - February 2nd, 2026

The Lower Tuolumne is currently running at 241cfs, which is unchanged from last week and has remained very consistent. This is a great wading flow for this stretch of water, with the majority of the river accessible. Weather this week is expected to be cloudier, with the chance of some dense fog. Highs will be in the mid 60s, with a few days reaching the low 70s.

Fishing Conditions & Tactics

With great flows and improving weather, now is an excellent time to get out on the Lower Tuolumne. We’ve been having successful outings here and have heard similar reports from other anglers as well.

The best approach on this section is to bring both a euro nymphing setup and an indicator setup. There is plenty of water perfectly suited for each technique, making it difficult to choose just one. Having both rigs will allow you to effectively cover all available water.

Recommended flies:

  • Egg patterns
  • Duracell
  • GTI Caddis
  • Fire Perdigons

Overall Outlook

One of the biggest advantages of this stretch is the excellent access both upstream and downstream, allowing anglers to spread out and still find productive water. While this section has seen some pressure recently, we expect that to ease as flows on the Mokelumne and Merced have dropped significantly.

We’ve been seeing and hearing reports of anglers finding good numbers of fish, along with some very high-quality trout mixed in. With everything lining up well over the next week, now is the time to get out on the water.
