Lower Tuolumne River Fishing Report - April 3rd, 2025

Lower Tuolumne River Fishing Report

Current Conditions: The Lower Tuolumne River is currently running at 355 cfs, maintaining steady and consistent flows. These conditions are ideal for both wading and drifting.

Weather Outlook: The weather will be warming up this weekend and into next week, with highs in the lower 70s early in the week, climbing to the upper 70s by the end of the week. With spring conditions arriving, expect great fishing opportunities.

Fishing Report: Fishing has been a bit inconsistent in this section, with anglers reporting success using a variety of techniques:

  • Some anglers have been fishing dries.
  • Others have been stripping streamers.
  • The majority have been nymphing, which remains the most effective method.

Given the width of the river and its runs, the best approach for indicator nymphing is to use a 10’ 5wt or 10’ 6wt rod, as the longer rods improve mending and line management, leading to longer, more effective drifts.

Fishing Pressure & Reports:

  • While fishing has been less consistent, there have been reports of large fish being seen.
  • This area is receiving less angling pressure than most of the other lower rivers.

Additional Tips:

  • Dress in layers, as mornings are chilly but warm up quickly.
  • Take advantage of less crowded waters for a potentially rewarding experience.
