Lower Tuolumne River Fishing Report - May 4th, 2026

The lower Tuolumne is currently running at 352cfs, a significant drop from last week and a much more manageable flow for anglers. This level is well-suited for those looking to walk and wade, though some sections will still have swift current, so caution remains important.

The weather this week will vary, starting off cooler with a couple days of precipitation, then gradually warming, with temperatures climbing into the 90s by early next week.

Fishing Conditions & Tactics

With flows settling into a very fishable range, now is a great time to get out on the water. We’ve been seeing consistent success on this stretch, and reports from other anglers have been equally positive.

This river offers a wide variety of water types, making it ideal to fish with both a euro nymphing setup and an indicator rig. There is enough water suited for each technique that it’s hard to favor one over the other—having both options available will allow you to effectively cover the entire river.

Recommended Flies

  • Pheasant Tail Nymphs
  • Duracel
  • GTI Caddis
  • Fire Perdigons

Overall Outlook

With improved flows, good access both upstream and downstream, and favorable fishing reports, this stretch is shaping up to be one of the better options in the area this week.

Take advantage of the cooler early-week conditions before temperatures rise. As always, use caution when wading and be prepared with layers for changing weather.
