Middle Fork Stanislaus River Fishing Report - April 27th, 2026

The Middle Fork of the Stanislaus was last reported at 177 cfs, down slightly from last week. If flows have remained steady, this is still a good level for early-season fishing. The weather this week is expected to be warmer, with highs in the mid 60s for most of the week.

Fishing Conditions & Tactics

With access roads opening recently, anglers are now able to get onto this stretch for the first time this season, making it a great option to explore. With early-season conditions in play, this is one area we would highly recommend.

Water temperatures are still on the cooler side, so nymphing techniques will be the most effective approach. This stretch offers a wide range of water suitable for:

  • Euro nymphing
  • Indicator nymphing
  • High-sticking

Recommended Flies

  • Pat’s Rubber Legs
  • Fire Orange Perdigons
  • Brassies
  • Duracel Nymphs

Overall Outlook

Although it’s still early in the season—and we typically don’t see peak conditions for another 3–4 weeks—this river is already showing promising early-season potential.

With the seasonal “opener” approaching, expect increased pressure. Anglers who can get out midweek will likely find better conditions and less competition.

Be prepared for variable weather—bring layers and rain gear to stay comfortable on the water.
