North Fork Stanislaus River Fishing Report - September 8th, 2025

The North Fork of the Stanislaus is currently flowing at 247cfs, down nearly 150cfs from last week’s precipitation bump. While this is a higher than flow than we saw a month ago, it remains a great level for fishing with plenty of access along this stretch.

Weather Outlook

Conditions will be far more moderate compared to recent weeks, with highs in the upper 60s and overnight lows in the low to mid 50s. These cooler temperatures, combined with steady flows, are creating excellent fishing conditions heading into late summer.

Tactics & Fly Recommendations

With flows running on the higher side, anglers should lean on nymphing setups to stay effective:

  • Indicator Nymphing – Perfect for longer, deeper runs.
  • Euro Nymphing – Ideal for faster, pocket-style water.

While carrying a few dry flies is never a bad idea this time of year, most fish will likely be holding deeper in the column with these flows.

Recommended Fly Patterns:

  • T.J. Hooker
  • Jig Naughty Bunny
  • Rubber Leg Copper Johns
  • Hi-Vis Caddis
  • Stimulators

Season Outlook

Now is a fantastic time to be on the water. Flows remain strong, water temperatures are low, and the crowds have thinned with school back in session and Labor Day behind us. The only factor to keep an eye on is air quality, as wildfires south of the area have periodically brought smoke into the region.
